It is time to discover the amazing Garopaba

Municipality Garopaba is situated in the state of Santa Catarina in the South of Brazil. We do not have to encourage you to go there, the photos below will do their job 🙂 Just look at those beautiful beaches, mountains, rivers, lakes, waterfalls, dunes and forests with walking trails. That is a lot to see, right? And that is not all. Just read the rest of our text about Garopaba and learn more about what you can do there and when is the best time to visit this amazing spot.

When to go to Garopaba?

Garopaba is worth visiting at any time of the year. The highest temperatures occur here at the turn of the year (in January the temperature may be around 29 degrees). In June it drops to 20 degrees. However, you can enjoy the sunny weather all year round. Just decide which attractions are most appealing to you and choose if you prefer to do it when it is really hot or just nicely warm.

What to do in Garopaba?

The beaches are not the only attractions for tourists in the area. Everybody will find something to do. Below we will list a few attractions which may be interesting for you:

Dunas do Siriú

Those beautiful dunes are the main attraction when going on Siriú Beach. The area is a part of the Serra do Tabuleiro National Park and is protected by law. Some of the dunes reach even 30 meters high and are a perfect place to practice sandboarding. What an amazing and fun experience, very similar to snowboarding. You have to try it!

Whale watching

Between June and September, our favorite tourist attraction is offered – whale watching. Beautiful female whales give birth and nurse their babies there, as they are further away from predators. An average of 109 right whales is seen each year on the Santa Catarina coast. Garopaba and Imbituba are the main sighting points. You just need to buy a ticket on a boat ride and see the whales just next to the boat. One in a lifetime experience! The rides are regulated by the animal protection association so they are safe and nature-friendly.

Beaches of Garopaba

The beaches in the area of Garopaba are perfect for sunbathing and swimming in translucent waters. They are also attractive for surfers who enjoy big waves. That is why national and international sports championships take place here every year. The main beaches are the following:

  • Praia Garopaba (Central Beach),
  • Praia da Ferrugem,
  • Praia do Silveira,
  • Praia da Barra,
  • Praia do Gamboa.

Walking trails

There are two main trails in the city – Trilha da Pedra Branca (White Stone Trail) and Trilha da Vigia (Lookout Trail). The views are wonderful and in the end, the reward is great!

There are three main waterfalls in Garopaba: Encantada, Siriú and Macacu.

The biggest one – Macacu – which is also the closest to the city center is the most developed. You can find restaurants there, zip lines, climbing walls and more. The other two waterfalls are smaller but also very beautiful.

Party place

Buildings scattered over hilly terrain, unpaved roads and green spaces give a specific rural atmosphere. However, do not expect a peaceful atmosphere. Numerous bars, night clubs, and discos mean that the city attracts crowds of young people from all over Brazil – especially during the carnival – who want to escape from crowded metropolises for this period.

Remember that traveling around Brazil is the easiest and the cheapest if you choose to travel by bus. It is best to buy a bus ticket online beforehand. You will not be stressed that the tickets can be sold out which sometimes can happen especially during the peak traveling season.

We wish you an amazing time in Brazil. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to leave them in the comments section below.

São Paulo is the second most desirable travel destination in the world in 2020

Thanks to Google research made between January and December 2019 for dates in 2020 (searches for accommodation – hotels), you can check which cities are those which people want to visit the most in 2020. This research may give you some ideas about where to go on your holiday. We are very proud that São Paulo is second on the list, just after Da Nang in Vietnam. If you decide to visit this unique place in Brazil, which we encourage you to do so, we will give you a few tips about what to see and do in the city. We will also briefly talk about the results of the research.

Google research – results

The first place on the list takes Da Nang in Vietnam. Da Nang is a city where many people start their adventure in Central Vietnam. It is often a halfway point for people who visit the country because it lies between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh. The atmosphere there is different from those of both cities, though. Arriving there you can set off on a journey in almost every direction and find many fascinating and magical places. The city is surrounded by sea and mountains and it has a unique microclimate.

The second on the list is São Paulo and then Seul in South Korea, Tokyo (Japan), Tel Aviv (Israel), Marseille (France), Vienna (Austria), Bangkok (Thailand), Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Perth (Australia). Let’s focus on São Paulo, as this city is the closest to our hearts.

São Paulo – the largest city in Latin America

São Paulo is the largest city not only in the country but also throughout Latin America. It has a special atmosphere and many attractions. São Paulo is the most ethnically and religiously diverse urban area. This settlement, founded in the 16th century, still attracts crowds of tourists.

We have written about this city before and encourage you to read the article about time, weather and also some tips that we give to the tourists. Below you will find three other attractions that can be found in São Paulo that we have not mentioned in the previous article.

Aclimação and Ibirapuera

São Paulo is known as the concrete city, however, it is not entirely true. Aclimação and Ibirapuera are two parks worth visiting. The first park gives a delicate foretaste of the Brazilian tropical forest. In addition to the beautiful nature, you can encounter monkeys and proudly strolling peacocks. In Ibirapuera Park, on the other hand, you can see interesting constructions and works of art incorporated into the natural landscape. Everything can be touched which is quite an attraction for children.

Mercado Municipal Paulistano

This fruit, meat, and vegetable market delight with a variety of smells and flavors. Your taste buds will experience something indescribable. We are sure that you have never seen so many fruits, nuts, and seafood in one place. In addition to taste sensations, Mercado Municipal Paulistano also offers artistic experience, as the entire attic is decorated with beautiful stained glass windows.

Once you are in São Paulo, you can easily travel to other cities by bus. You can go to Rio de Janeiro in around 4 hours. All you have to do is visit the Brazil Bus Travel website and buy your ticket online. It is a recommended website that specializes in selling bus tickets for foreigners.

We hope that you have found some inspiration for your next holiday. We wish you amazing experiences.

Carnival 2020 – how to plan the trip?

The earlier the better as this time of the year is quite busy in Brazil. The Carnival 2020 takes place in February.

In Rio de Janeiro it starts on February 21st and lasts until February 26. It doesn’t take place just in Rio de Janeiro though. You may go to São Paulo, Recife, Salvador, Olinda or even Manaus. How to plan the trip and what to remember about? If you are curious, this text is for you.

Buy the tickets and book the accommodation even today

  • Accommodation

As we have mentioned before, during the Carnival 2020, the cities will be quite full of people wanting to spend the time partying on the streets with their friends. People travel across the country to visit the cities with the best carnival parties. Those are not just tourists as you may think. Brazilians have time off during the Carnival and you bet they want to use it. This is the time that they want to spend with their friends, dress up and have fun. So they will book the hotels and hostels as well. Don’t wait till the last moment to choose your accommodation as you may be surprised by not many options left. In Rio de Janeiro we recommend hotels and hostels near the Ipanema beach. In São Paulo – the Jardins and Vila Madalena areas.

  • Transportation

If you want to travel from one city to another, it is best to choose the bus to do so. And yes, you can buy the tickets online – remember – the earlier the better. Even if you are a tourist, you can buy the bus tickets using your credit card or PayPal account on the Brazil Bus Travel website Starting this year, you may buy an electronic ticket from São Paulo to Rio de Janeiro. It means that you won’t have to go to the bus station at least 30 minutes before the departure time to collect the ticket at the bus carrier counter. You may just show the ticket on your phone. It is a good idea to spend a few days in São Paulo and then go to Rio de Janeiro and spend Carnival 2020 there as well.

If you want to rent a car, you may also do it, however, avoid the city center as it will be difficult to move around. Our advice is not to do it though. Too much of hustle in our opinion.

Choose the bus instead.

Joining the party

Depending on the city you choose to spend the Carnival 2020 in, search for the timetable of the parties online. Just write ‘blocos’ and the name of the city and you will definitely find it. ‘Blocos’ means ‘street parties’ – they are much more informal than the parties on the Sambodrome. If you would like to do it though – watch the samba show – buy the tickets now. You can easily do it online.

We have also written about the Carnival before. Read about it here .

If you still have questions, please leave them in the comments section below. We will definitely answer. Enjoy your stay in Brazil during the Carnival 2020.

Why Fernando de Noronha is a must to visit in 2020

The Fernando de Noronha archipelago regularly occupies the top rankings of the most beautiful islands and beaches in the world. Have we encouraged you already to visit this beautiful place? 🙂 If not, just read a few facts about it and hopefully – buy the tickets and have the best time of your life.

Fernando de Noronha is an archipelago of 21 islands in the Atlantic Ocean. It has a volcanic origin with a total area of 26 km2 – 17 km2 is the largest island. Noronha has located 360 km from Natal and 545 km from Recife. Administratively, it belongs to the state of Pernambuco.

The archipelago was discovered at the beginning of the 16th century and received a name in honor of its explorer, Fernão de Loronha – whose name was turned into Noronha and so it remained. During the French and Dutch invasion of Brazil between the 16th and 18th centuries, the islands were also interesting for them, but eventually, the Portuguese managed to recapture the archipelago and maintain control over it. During World War II, there was a military base there, in which Americans were stationed. American forces maintained a missile tracking base there until 1959 – to this day many places on the island have retained the names given by the Americans.

What to see:

Paths (trilhas) – must be booked at the ICMBio headquarters – it is not easy, because they can only be booked in person (except for paths on which the guide must accompany you) several days in advance. The daily visitor limit applies.

The most recommended paths that need to be booked in ICMBio:

Atalaia – a large natural pool in the part of the island of Mar de Fora. You can go a shorter path (Atalaia Curta) without a guide or longer several hours (Atalaia Longa) with a guide. After reaching the place, you have 30 minutes to swim in the pool, of course, in a vest and without touching the bottom with our feet.

Abreu – natural pools, which we reach over a kilometer path, you do not need to rent a guide here,

Capim Açu – the longest path in the park which requires good physical fitness ; you reach a cave with natural pools – guide required,

Pontinha – Pedra Alta and Caieira – a guided path, again to natural pools.

Sunset is a phenomenon highly anticipated at Fernando de Noronha. This is one of the few places in Brazil where the sun goes down to the sea. Crowds of tourists gather at several points here to admire this beautiful spectacle.

Diving can be practiced by both beginners and advanced here. A mask with a tube will always be useful and is even required in many places (you can rent it).

Last but not least – the beautiful beaches. There are a lot of beaches there which are amazing – believe us. The most known ones are the following:

  • Praía do Sancho
  • Baía dos Porcos
  • Praia da Cacimba do Padre

What to bring with you:

  • Sports camera (can be rented on-site),
  • T-shirt with a UV filter – remember that you will spend all days in the sun and in some water reservoirs you cannot use sunscreen, so the shirt is very useful,
  • More cash – although you can pay by card in many places, there are places where you can only pay with cash,
  • Essentials for the beach, i.e. a towel, pareo, Havaianas, sunglasses and a hat,
  • Sneakers if you go on longer paths.

If you intend to travel in Brazil, buy your tickets here – it’s better, safer and has the best price for you.

Enjoy your trip to Fernando de Noronha and let us know in the comments below how it was. If you have any questions, we are happy to help.
